AGE AND BIRTHDAY: 22 & July 20th. BAND AND POSITION: Dragon Queen drummer. GENDER: Male. SEXUAL ORIENTATION: Pomosexual. |
LIKES: bubble baths, spitting, necklaces, Michael Jackson, David Bowie, accents, kissing, baggy sweaters, fires, bonfires, candles, incense, dogs, turtles, pirates, cuddles, hugs, skateboarding, longboarding, surfing, tattoos, bow ties, feathers, tongue piercings, camping, blanket forts, hot chocolate, Pirates of the Caribbean, orcas, painting, peeling paint off of skin, babies, children, animal onesies, body modifications, scars, bigger set women, his birthplace, Canada, Tim Minchin, his full name, working out, hickeys, braces.
DISLIKES: birds, especially pigeons, most food, extensive make up, personal questions, astrology, oranges and orange juice (allergic), spiders, centipedes, aliens, anything to do with aliens, flying, airplanes, chocolate, revolving doors, cinemas, the words swag and yolo, odd numbers, most primetime television, whistling, suits and tuxedos, chicken as a food, brunettes with ginger facial hair (freaks him out for unknown reasons), most sports, doing interviews, ties, fighting, arguing, debating, confrontation, spray tans, raccoon make up, stretched ears, clowns, mimes, vodka, excessive drinking, because he’s afraid of vomiting.
HABITS: First, he has an often annoying eating habit of being an incredibly picky eater and the more stressed he is the pickier he is with his food. He’s one of those people who can’t have his food touching, can’t have certain textures, and so on and so forth. He’s also somewhat of a messy eater. It can be bothersome to go out to eat with him because he is so selective with the food he will eat. Lokka either takes the longest to order, trying to decide on what he will/can eat, or is the quickest if it’s somewhere he’s already been, he’s already chosen the one item he likes and won’t stray from it.
He also has a nasty drug habit. He used to not bother hiding it but has since gotten sneaky with it. Weed is, naturally, the most common but he’s also taken up Ketamine in recent months and similar prescription drugs. He tries to stay away from harder drugs but we’ll see how long that lasts.
Drumming his fingers is also a big one. If he can’t have drumsticks in his hands he’s drumming on any surface he can find. He’s restless and fidgety and this is just the easiest way for him to occupy his ands. When Lokka is upset, angry, sick, or just generally in a more negative mood he’ll keep a towel draped around his neck so he can brush the corner along the back of his ear. It calms him down and acts as a way to tell if he’s troubled and to get him to fall asleep. And last, spitting.
STRENGTHS: MELLOW. He’s generally a pretty relaxed guy and often the mediating type. Maybe it’s all of the K he’s taking or maybe it’s just how he is, but either way he’s mellow and mature. Lakota is a guy who can be counted on to keep his calm and stay focused. He may not be the most talkative or disclosing guy around, but he lives in this sort of “everything will turn out” bubble. Lokka sits on a line between being an optimist and being a realist where he believes that if you just wait it out things will turn out however they’re supposed to. Lakota often acts as the friend to go to when you need to calm down. Be it anger or heartbreak he somehow manages to act as the beautifully played harp that tames the raging Cerberus.
HUMOROUS. Sarcasm is common with him. While it may take him a while to open up to someone once he has he’s a pretty funny guy. He doesn’t mind cracking off jokes at his own expense. He doesn’t mind poking fun as his mixed heritage so go ahead and call him a mutt or make Mexican jokes or whatever else comes to mind. Once he’s opened up to a person and once he’s comfortable he sets free his tastefully offensive humor. At first he seems far too serious for his own good but then he gets comfortable and does a complete one-eighty.
INTELLECT. Lokka is smarter than he appears to be and despite being a little vulgar and a little rough around the edges he really enjoys the opportunity to learn and grow. He hasn’t had a lot of opportunity to be able to explore his curiosity and thirst for knowledge so when he had a few seconds to spare expect to see a book in his hand or his eyes glued to an article on his phone.
TOLERABLE. He grew up around some really extreme personalities so it’s difficult for him to find someone he’s genuinely bothered by. You can tall him every name in the book and he will probably just shrug and move on with his life. He has a sort of “come at me bro” outlook on people, figuring that his family is as extreme as it can get and if he can handle them then he can handle anything. Going along with this he’s just a tolerable person in general. He’ll go along with situations even if he doesn’t particularly enjoy them without much of a complaint, such as interviews. He knows they’re necessary so he does them anyways. Lakota accepts most everything that’s handed to him outside of his personal affairs.
WEAKNESSES: CLOSED. There’s a lot that Lakota doesn’t really disclose about himself. He’s a very private guy and that tends to bug people. It’s a mixture of simply not liking to talk about himself and not being comfortable enough around most people to actually talk in depth about his experiences. He knows they aren’t necessarily bad experiences—it’s not like it’s hard to talk about or emotionally trying—he simply doesn’t want to talk about them. Even his closest friends know very little about his upbringing and childhood. The more people press the more closed off he becomes until he simply doesn’t speak at all. He’s more sensitive about stuff like this than people often realize, because he find it difficult to express the reasoning behind why talking about his personal life makes him so uncomfortable. Lokka is one of those people who you have to let come to you, and when he does share something it’s something to be cherished.
ADDICTIVE PERSONALITY. With a family history of addiction it’s really not at all surprising that Lakota has a very addictive personality. He becomes very dependent very easily, and not just to substances. He’s one of those people who upon finding something he is passionate about goes out of his way to learn every single little detail involved and obsesses over it to an unhealthy degree.
ACCENTS. Good god is he a sucker for someone with an accent. Even if it’s just a Southern drawl he honestly can’t contain himself. He could listen to you natter on for hours and hours and hours and hours an you don’t even have to be saying anything that’s worth listening to. Accents just turn him into putty and the more exotic the less control he has over himself. If someone with a Ukrainian accent asked him to kill a man he would probably agree and then take a while to realize what he had actually agreed to do.
SECRETS: Well, Lokka tries to keep his personal life personal so to the general public he has a fair amount of what could be considered secrets. His sexuality, for instance, is something he generally keeps on a need-to-know basis. When asked he uses the label “pomosexual” because he doesn’t see why people need to know who he’s sexually interested in. All people, even those very close to him, really know is that Lokka has been with men, women, and even some “in betweens”. That said, when he is with someone he will go out of way to keep that his and his partner’s business. Not because he’s ashamed as most people tend to assume but because he feels that it’s only their business. His band might not even find out until months into a relationship.
So coinciding with the above, his family life is a mystery to most people, as is his ethnicity. (Honestly, I don’t think even he knows as both of his parents are mixed race.) He doesn’t talk about his family much so people only really know that his parents were never actually together and that he has a hoard of half siblings. It’s simply not something he sees a point in disclosing.
But the things he goes out of his way to hide? His drug use. He told his band he was quitting after a very bad trip that resulted in a severe concussion and two broken ribs but clearly that plan to quit hasn’t been followed through. Lokka has always been somewhat secretive and even a bit suspicious so he hopes that the mystery he tries to shroud himself with will hide this.
And last a less serious secret, but his favorite personal feature is his eyebrows. They may be bushy but he likes them. He says his favorite feature are his eyes but nope, it’s the eyebrows. Also, if you ask him about his love for bubble baths and the fact that almost every Disney movie still makes him cry he will deny it to his deathbed. His first crush was on Grover and he used to talk about getting married some day, naturally the day he found out that Grover was a puppet was the saddest day of his life.
OVERALL: Lakota is a complex guy, that much is obvious. He’s also still working on figuring out who he is. He’s young and a little lost in life but patiently waiting for his answers. He simultaneously manages to be too mature for his own good while having a very immature sense of humor. It’s a mystery to even himself as to how self aware Lakota is and one of the things he isn’t aware about is just how deep his abandonment issues run. Now, Lakota’s life hasn’t been that tragic by any means but he didn’t handle certain events very well. After moving 2,000 kilometers from BC, Canada to Los Angelas he left a lot of himself behind. He’s lost and confused and homesick and doesn’t really know how to handle that. It’s the biggest reason as to why he keeps so much to himself. Because he’s afraid of leaving people behind again and because he’s afraid of letting down and is going about handling that in a wrong way. Lakota would rather hurt himself and be unaware of that than hurt another person. He’s a gentle soul. He avoids fighting of any kind.
Upon first meeting him he seems almost shy, not a very talkative person who seems rather disinterested in people and maybe even a bit stuck up but he doesn’t intend to be like this. He simply doesn’t really know how to talk to people. He’s bad as small talk and it a bit on the introverted side. But once he opens up to a person and once he’s comfortable it’s really hard to change that. Once Lakota considers you a friend, you’re his friend for life. He’s incredibly loyal, willing to go to great lengths for the people he cares about. Lokka might hide a lot about himself but he is a very devoted friend to have and no matter how cruel you are to him it’s very hard to lose him.

FAMILY: Kahlua Lovato is the given name of his father though ‘Kahlua’ isn’t on his birth certificate. He’s a mixed race pot-smoking, highly dysfunctional middle aged man with a million and one problems. He didn’t play a major role in Lakota’s actual upbringing and acted more as a friend or a cool uncle. Kahlua has two daughters, Brandyn and Evan mind you Evan was adopted.
Marita Yasir is his mother who is currently between jobs. She’s a somewhat flaky woman who trusts far too easily and doesn’t always make the right choices with her children. Marita has two older sons from two previous relationships; Kokanee and August. She’s never really been able to settle down but is currently married to Wayne Moore, an electrician with two daughters from a previous marriage. Together Wayne and Marita have a twelve year old daughter, Robyn. So in case you lost count that’s two stepsisters, three half sisters, and two half brothers.
ANY OTHERS: His family is very large and extended. He has six aunts and uncles on his father’s side and five aunts and uncles on his mother’s. He has several dozen cousins and second cousins and even a few nephews and nieces that August take care of when Lakota is away.
PETS: Back home he has a tomcat named Jack and two dogs, Tilikum and Haida, that are both mutts he got from the pound.
OVERALL: Lakota’s life hasn’t been as rough as one might assume. He was born to Kahlua Lovato and Marita Yasir, a pair who spent their youth wild and free and partying. They were friends with a lot of benefits who tried their best to be careful and quite clearly failed at that. But Kahlua was never cut out to raise boys and Marita didn’t expect him to. As long as Kahlua was a part of their son’s life she was content but in the end the man had little say in his son’s life. A better part of Lakota’s childhood was spent in a small town on the northern end of Vancouver Island, living with his mother and two older half brothers in a small house. He shared a room with Kokanee because August had a habit of talking rather loudly in his sleep and grew up as a normal boy would. Him and his brothers fought. Him and his brothers got along. One second they were a big puddle of cuddles and the next they were drawing blood. Boys will be boys. Lakota saw his father every weekend, as did August and Kokanee with their fathers’, and got along more with Kahlua’s two daughters than he did his brothers. Specifically Brandyn, the biological half sister. Marita’s boyfriend’s came and went, some nicer than others, some with kids of their own for him to play with. It was the typical low class scenario where he visited his father part time and grew up with just enough to keep him satisfied. He adored his home where he could run around without shoes on all day long and not worry about getting cut feet. Where he could have bonfires every night and swim in the ocean and go whale watching for his birthday and hike up the mountains. It was free and easy and simple and Kahlua even taught Lakota how to play drums and guitar at a very young age.
And then his mother picked the three boys up and made them move to Los Angeles when Lakota was twelve. He was taken away from all of his friends. From his sisters. From his father. From the home that had always felt like it was filled with magic. Away from everything he knew and loved and he quickly grew resentful of his mother for forcing him into such a drastic move. He pulled all of the typical childish ways to get them to move back to The Island but nothing worked. So then he simply started acting out and rebelling against her rules, in the process making friends with a group of boys that over time he came to love and adore. He explored his love for music with these boys and with a few other friends explored under aged delinquency. The first friends he made upon moving to LA he ended up forming a band with, though halfway through high school the vocalist left. Lakota’s junior year was when his frequent pot smoking turned into weed laced with LSD, and then weed mixed with cocaine. Not long after graduation the band, which they named Dragon Queen, got their big break. While Lakota has always been just as talented on guitar as he is drums, he stuck to drums because it was less in the spotlight. He could hide behind a drum kit and not have to be all that involved.
Half a year ago was Lakota’s bad trip that gave him the jump start he needed to stop his nasty drug habits and borderline abuse, obtaining injuries that temporarily stopped him from being able to play. After receiving news that his mother had married her current boyfriend, who Lakota wasn’t really find of, he decided to give heroin a try and clearly made a mistake there. He managed to stay clean for three months before giving in to temptation and returning to the drugs he was more familiar with. The ones that made him feel safe and secure. So far he’s hidden it rather well but we’ll see how long that lasts.
