His head was pounding. The thoughts kept swirling around Adrian’s head as he walked across the field to a lone standing tree. He just needed to clear his head. The day was perfect to be outside and Adrian was sick of being stuck in the crowded bus with everyone else. It was a relief there was actually somewhere to be alone with his thoughts, though he didn’t like being alone. There weren’t many people in the park for the type of day it was.
The minutes dragged on. Slowly, Adrian dropped onto his butt and leaned against the tree. Closing his eyes, he listened to the wind blow around him. As he took a deep breath, he flashed back to his earlier conversation with his father. They were talking about Harmony and the condition she was in. Adrian agreed with his father that it was his fault. He already knew that. What could he do though? His sister’s diagnosis was something Adrian couldn’t protect her from.
Adrian opened his eyes and leaned his head back to look at the sky. All he wanted was an escape. He’s been trying to stay away from drugs though. So far, his progress has been going pretty well. He wasn’t completely clean, but he was getting there. The pill deep in his pocket was calling for him. Resisting, Adrian knew Harmony would disapprove but he’s always been so good at hiding it from her. Adrian knew the ways to keep his sister happy. She was the only one who cared for him, after all.
Sliding his hand into his jeans, Adrian fiddled around with the one thing that would help free his mind from the pain of the guilt weighing him down. Uncurling his fingers from the small pill, Adrian knew he was shouldn’t be making this decision and let it rest where it was. His sister needed him in a straight state of mind, but it was getting harder and harder for Adrian to deal with. He needed something more.

The door clicked shut slowly behind the dark haired girl, and she flicked on the light, it was dark in the bathroom, after all. Emma wasn’t quite sure what time it was, but she was sure it was later than the time she got up yesterday, because today, Tremor, the band’s drummer, had actually been considerate and decided to not practice at the crack of dawn, like he usually did. God must only know why he was even awake at those hours…but ever since he’d become friends with this Molly girl, he’d become a lot calmer and more considerate of the other people around him. Emma made a mental note to meet Molly someday.
She didn’t bother with a shower; she’d had one last night, anyway. Instead, she set to work on her makeup and brushing the thick black matted mess on her head. She honestly didn’t remember last night, but something told her she didn’t want to. What she wanted to know is how her hair could get so matted in the space of less than a day. After she defeated her hair, she rummaged around, searching for an outfit that looked decent. She settled for a dinosaur top and a pair of jeans, and basically hopped out of her tour bus with her red converse half on, sunglasses in hand, her acoustic guitar on her back. She figured she’d go to the park, and maybe, she’d get inspiration for a new song. And at least she wouldn’t disturb anyone with her practicing; everyone at the park was already awake…
The wet grass made a strange noise under her feet, it’d only rained yesterday. She just hoped that the park wasn’t muddy. It was actually a nice day out, in comparison to yesterday, when the entire crowd got pelted with rain all day.
When she reached the park, she searched for a spot to sit. Seeing a shady place under a tree, she decided to go over; it was only when she got closer that she realised there was a person under the tree. They didn’t look too happy though, so she kept walking over. Maybe they’d appreciate her company.
“Hey.”

Adrian was yanked from his thoughts when he heard a feminine voice. If he had even been paying the slightest bit of attention, he would have seen the girl walk up. She looked a bit younger than Adrian and she was absolutely stunning. Adrian felt bad that he had been wrapped up in his thoughts. She looked concerned for him…Probably because he was a complete mess at the moment. He was running on zero hours of sleep and he didn’t bother to change from yesterday’s wrinkled flannel button up.
“Oh…hey there.” Adrian replied, hoping that he didn’t sound like a complete moron. He didn’t expect to really talk to anyone today, aside from checking in on Harmony. After coming back to reality a bit, Adrian hoisted himself off the ground, noticing that the girl had a guitar attached to her back. He probably stole her usual spot for writing or something. Cursing himself for being rude, he gave the girl a half smile. “Would you like this spot? I don’t mind moving.”
Without thinking, Adrian shoved his hands into his pockets. It was normal for him to do when he got nervous. His hand came in contact with the pill again and Adrian let out a sigh. He really shouldn’t be carrying it around with him. The need for it arose in his eyes and he looked down at the ground. This was no way to acting in front of a lady.
Feeling like a failure once again, Adrian realized he didn’t even introduce himself to this girl. Although, Adrian wasn’t even sure if she wanted to know him. Hell, he didn’t want to know himself most of the time. Being good at faking happiness, Adrian put on a smile and looked up at the girl. “I’m Adrian.”

“Oh…hey there.” The guy spoke, giving Emma a half smile. “Would you like this spot? I don’t mind moving.” To be honest, Emma didn’t really mind if the guy stayed or not. He looked like he could use some company, and so Emma was just happy to sit there with him, and practice. It didn’t really bother the dark haired girl, but then, a lot of things didn’t bother her. Or, she’d pretend they didn’t bother her when they were really killing her inside. But, she wouldn’t mind sitting next to this guy, anyhow.
“You don’t have to move, if you don’t want to. I don’t mind.”
[/b] Emma sat down next to him, but far enough away that if she got her guitar out it wouldn’t bother him. Taking her prized guitar off her back and unzipping it, she paused, just thinking. She wasn’t thinking about anything in particular, but actually being able to sit down and think was a nice thing. Because, with the busy tour life, she really didn’t get the time to sit down and think much. “I’m Adrian.” The guy, Adrian, she corrected herself, told Emma, smiling at her. “I'm Emma. The lead guitarist for Saint.”[/b] Emma decided to introduce herself, but she didn’t really know if the guy…Adrian, wanted to know her. Oh well, it didn’t really matter now, she’d introduced herself, so, if he didn’t want to know her…then…he could just…go? “What do you do on the tour?” It then occurred to the raven haired girl that she really didn’t know he was a part of the tour. She’d just assumed that. But, he seemed vaguely familiar, so maybe she had seen him around the tour? Emma continued to get her guitar out, the falling apart book that she called her songbook falling out of the bag, completely unnoticed by both of them. She rummaged around in the bag, trying to find her pick, with no success. So, she began to play a random string of chords that seemed to go together, with no guitar pick. That was how she always started to write songs, anyway. Adrian let himself relax back into his sitting position and closed his eyes again. The girl seemed to be fine with him staying and he kind of liked the idea of company. Sitting by himself wasn’t getting him anywhere and Adrian felt like this girl would be a positive influence. He didn’t really know why, but he felt like he could relax around her and get back to his thoughts. Adrian smiled when she introduced herself and how assumed that he was on tour with her. If he was in her place, he would have asked the same thing. Being on tour, it becomes first instinct to think that other people are on tour with you. Seeing how she guessed right, he laughed a little bit and glanced at her through small slits in his eyes. “I’m with Break Bones Break Hearts, actually. I’m their photographer.” It didn’t seem as awesome as actually being in the band, but his photography got him out of his thoughts and into the action. Opening his eyes completely, Adrian actually looked at Emma. She had begun playing her guitar and the music was really good. He watched her dark hair flow with the wind and started playing around with the grass at his feet so that he didn’t stare. It would be completely rude and it would probably look like he was gawking at her. Doing so, he discovered an open book on the ground displaying what he believed was the words written by Emma. Picking it up gently so that it didn’t fall apart he glanced up at Emma, “Would you mind if I read a few?” He always loved reading other peoples work.

C R E D I T;; hey it's SHMEY! @ caution 2.0 - - - - - - - - - - Adrian laughed a bit at her question, “I’m with Break Bones Break Hearts, actually. I’m their photographer.” So he was a photographer. Emma had always liked photography, but she’d never found such a love for it as she did with music.
Out of the corner of her eyes, she could see him watching her. She felt a slight blush creep across her face, but she didn’t pay any attention to it, instead, she focused on playing the music. Her fingers glided over the guitar strings, like they’d done a million times before, her dark hair blocking her vision. She brushed it away with a quick flick of her hand, and went back to playing.
“Would you mind if I read a few?” Adrian spoke, startling the girl. Looking up, Emma realised that he had her songbook resting gently in her hands. She nodded, she really didn’t mind. Going back to playing, she realised she couldn’t really focus on playing anymore, so she settled for examining her bright blue fingernails. The nail polish was slightly cracking, due to her playing her acoustic guitar with no pick. She sighed; she’d have to re-paint them when she went back to her bus.
Fiddling with the grass beside her, she let herself get wrapped up in her thoughts, replaying in her mind the day before. Nothing really special had happened the day before; aside from it’d pelted rain, relentlessly, onto the crowd all day. The crowd hadn’t minded, all they cared about was seeing the bands that they loved perform.
Crew people had basically a day off today, it was a Saturday, and the performance wasn’t until really late, so they had almost the entire day to themselves.

Adrian pushed himself up into a sitting position and gazed down at the pages. The notebook was filled with lyrics, overflowing practically. The words ran through Adrian’s mind and he could picture them being sung out loud. Smiling, Adrian was enjoying the songs he was reading and he realized if these were the songs her band covered, he was going to have to go watch them play. After thumbing through ten or more songs, Adrian realized how quiet it had gotten between the two of them. He heard kids playing off in the distance and dogs barking. It was peaceful here and Adrian was content. “So Emma,” he said, catching her eyes, “what are your plans for the day?” He wasn’t quite sure why he was asking. He just realized it was early in the day still and he had time to kill before he had to head to the show. “I mean, I was thinking of grabbing my camera and hanging around the park most of the day. I wanted to take some non-band shots.” Adrian said, playing with a stray string on his jeans. He didn’t expect her to go along with it. He was a complete stranger after all. The fact that she sat with him was still in his head though. Maybe she wouldn’t mind hanging out with him. Adrian’s smile faltered a bit without him realizing it. “It’s up to you though.” Placing her notebook next to her guitar, Adrian looked down at the roots coming out of the tree.

C R E D I T;; hey it's SHMEY! @ caution 2.0 - - - - - - - - - - Adrian looked through the songbook, scanning the pages that filled with words written in fading ink, and turning them carefully, as if the worn pages might tear or fall apart any second. Well, they might’ve, the book was falling apart, anyhow. Emma decided that later, when she got a chance, she’d buy herself a new book, and a new pen while she was at it.
“So, Emma,” Adrian began, putting her songbook down carefully after flipping through it, “What are your plans for the day?”
“Why are you asking?”
[/b] The dark haired girl asked, shaking her hair from her eyes and looking up from the grass. Looking at him, she realised he was actually a pretty cute guy. If she'd known him more, she'd probably have a slight crush on him. “I mean, I was thinking of grabbing my camera and hanging around the park most of the day. I wanted to take some non-band shots.” He fiddled with a stray string of cotton on his jeans. Well, Emma didn’t really have anything to do with her day…really. All she had was to perform tonight, so she had the day to herself. “It’s up to you, though.” “Yeah, why not? So long as I can bring my guitar along. I don’t really feel like going back to my bus to put it away.” [/b]The dark haired girl finally spoke. Well, Adrian looked like he could use some company, and it wasn’t like she had anything to do until later today, so she could tag along with him. She wouldn’t actually mind hanging out with someone other than Alyx or her bandmates. And, even though Alyx was her best friend, sometimes, she liked to hang out with other people, and Adrian seemed the perfect guy to hang out with. “So, what did you have in mind?”[/b] She asked, putting her guitar back inside the bag, and carefully picking up her songbook, sitting that neatly on top of the guitar before zipping the bag up in one swift motion. She’d always amazed her bandmates with the fact that she could zip the bag so quickly, whenever they’d tried, it’d taken them two minutes whereas it only took the dark haired guitarist barely two seconds. Standing up, Adrian looked at Emma. Agreeing to hang out with him, she made a genuine smile come out, which was rare for Adrian. It was a weird feeling, seeing as how he had just met the girl, but he felt like she was sincerely a nice person and someone to keep around. He hasn’t really hung out with many people in a long time. The only person he is really close to is his sister Harmony and he’s always worrying about her. It wasn’t like he could help it. That’s what big brothers are for. Right? When Emma asked what he had in mind, Adrian paused. Personally, he didn’t think it would be too entertaining for her to watch him take pictures. Besides, it wasn’t a top priority to take these pictures and his camera was back in the bus. “Well, maybe we can just hang around the park? Or watch a movie somewhere?” Adrian wasn’t quite sure what Emma liked and was just rambling out things they could do. Accidently tearing off the stray string from his jeans, Adrian rolled it up and stuffed it in his pocket. He was a little nervous, though he didn’t know why. There was no reason to be nervous about hanging out with this new person…Though she was beautiful and he seemed to feel something click between them within the small amount of time they were talking.

"Hmm, hanging around here sounds good...I was actually going to get an ice cream before I found you." Well, that was true. The dark haired girl had been heading to find an ice cream, well, she would've after she'd practiced for a bit, but then she'd just happened to stumble across Adrian, "But, you looked like you could do with some company, so I figured my ice cream could wait." She didn't mention the fact that she felt the general need to help him, and to cheer him up, and, her plan had worked so far. Emma couldn't help but feel that Adrian was faking his happiness, though...maybe if she kept him around long enough, she'd be able to figure him out.
It also seemed strange that Adrian had appeared to be a little nervous around her. Of course, the guitarist really wasn't observant, if she was, she would've realised by now that ninety percent of guys she was around were slightly nervous. Well, aside from Tremor. Tremor was an obnoxious, loud drummer that was cute and funny at the same time and only nervous around Molly. Maybe that was because he had a thing for her?
Emma carefully examined her fingers, looking at the tiny scars from not using a pick with her guitar, and trying to hide the fact that she found Adrian attractive.
Well, he was. Rather attractive at that. And…different, for lack of a better word to describe him. A guy being polite and gentleman-like, but at the same time severely attractive wasn't weird, just...rare, seeing as the guys that Emma was usually with...well, they were attractive. Just...not polite.
"So...do you have a girlfriend? If you don't mind me asking." The second she said it, Emma realised that it sounded a bit rude...and out of line. She felt a slight blush creep across her face as she looked intently at the ground, hoping that he wouldn't think she was rude. And her potential friendship with this boy wasn't something she wanted to screw up...like she'd screwed up her friendship with Kai and several other people.
It was strange, but Emma had always had this tendency to screw things up majorly. She just hoped that she hadn't screwed this...friendship up before it'd even started. Trying to force a smile, but not succeeding, her happy expression dropped, replaced by a blank, empty, somewhat sad expression in it's place.
She really was a screw - up, there was no doubt in her mind about that.

Scratching the back of his head, Adrian looked away to hide his face. It wasn’t that he was really upset or anything, the question just caught him off guard. Adrian has been single for pretty much his whole life. Yea, he’s had a girlfriend here or there but he’s always been distracted from them while taking care of Harmony and they would get tired of him.
Adrian couldn’t help but feel lonely though. It seemed like every time a relationship ended, he was the reason. “No…” Adrian said softly, sticking his hands in his pockets. “Haven’t found anyone for me yet.” Adrian smiled his bright fake smile up at Emma. It got tiring to fake all the time, but he was pretty good at it. No one ever knew. “I’m sure you do though. Well…boyfriend that is?” Adrian asked. He was sure she was going out with someone. She was beautiful. There was no way someone like her was single.
Reaching further into his pocket, Adrian felt the indentations on the little white pill. He tried to get out of the funk he was in, but for some reason it just wasn’t working. This was the only thing that would help. Sure he hasn’t done any drugs in a few weeks and he was trying to get clean, but Harmony has been busy with her band and the trips to the hospital were stressing him out. Watching his sister get sicker with each passing day was killing him. Drugs were the only things that made him happy and it wasn’t like anyone paid enough attention to know he was a fuck up anyways. Placing it in his palm, he dragged it out of his pocket so it stayed out of Emma’s sight. Just because he was doing it, didn’t mean she needed to see. This wasn’t the normal way he took it either. Usually he would sniff it, but he was really in need of it and he wasn’t sure when he would be alone to do it the other way. “Sorry…Headache.” Adrian said, tossing the pill into his mouth and dry swallowing.
The only thing to do now was wait for it to kick in. It usually only takes a half hour to start working. Holding his hand out towards Emma, Adrian figured he should eat before that happened. Amphetamines usually make him loose his appetite and he hasn’t eaten yet today. Going all day without food would probably be bad. “Why don’t we go get that ice cream?” Mustering up a half smile, Adrian tried to keep his gaze away from the girl. He wasn’t very proud of himself for what he just did.

Well, at least he hadn’t voiced the thought that she was completely and utterly rude…
“No…” Adrian stuck his hands into his pockets. Emma couldn’t help but think that she’d made him feel uncomfortable. “Haven’t found anyone for me yet.” He finished his sentence, smiling up at the guitarist. “I’m sure you do though. Well…boyfriend that is?” He’d assumed wrong. Sure, there’d been a boyfriend…or two…or maybe three, but currently, there was no-one for Emma.
“I don’t…actually.” She sighed. Emma hadn’t had a boyfriend since…the age of sixteen, maybe? The boys she’d been around had always been interested in the typical cheerleader girl, the ones with the oversized chests and the fake blonde hair. Emma was pretty much the opposite, with the black hair, and the tiny frame. She’d been called a loser in school, too, which really didn’t do much for her self confidence, which was already as low as it could get. And her accent was made fun of, too, so that didn’t help her either, but she’d gotten good at hiding the accent.
With that, Adrian rummaged deeper in his pockets. Sure, he thought Emma couldn’t see, but she could, just not that well. “Sorry…Headache.” He tossed the small pill into his mouth. The dark haired girl didn’t really believe him, on the tour you were around enough drugs and pills and alcohol to know what they looked like. Now, she had a new mission. To get Adrian off drugs. Well, she wasn’t going to be around him much if he stayed on the drugs, because Emma had little tolerance for drugs and the like “Why don’t we go get that ice cream?” He asked, half-smiling at her.
It appeared her earlier suspicions of Adrian not being genuinely happy were correct, and this bothered her. Sometimes, her happiness was faked, but…she just didn’t understand it, so, she tried to come up with an idea as to why this guy faked his happiness. Hmm…who was this guy again? Adrian. Break Bones Break Heart’s photographer…last name was…she paused. Anderson. That was it. Wasn’t there this girl on tour called Harmony Anderson? Emma had to admit, Adrian and Harmony kind of resembled each other. But...what does that have to do with him being sad? She realised she was staring blankly into space.
Crap.
Not only would he think she was rude, now Adrian would think that Emma was a weirdo, too. Lovely. Completely fucking lovely. “Yeah, that ice cream sounds good. I think I saw an ice cream truck around here somewhere.” She spoke, hoping that Adrian wouldn’t think she was weird. That was the last thing she wanted. She put her guitar on her back and grabbed his hand, forcing a smile. “Let’s go.”
